"Oregonians care about one another. We have to fight back against those who say that we can't afford compassion. Compassion is what caused Oregonians to support the programs that gave my family food, healthcare, and housing when we went through tough times. Kids today deserve the same opportunities I had. That starts by supporting Oregon families." - Marty
Marty will work to ensure that Oregon's public schools are our top budget priority. He will work with local educators and parents to prioritize additional funding for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), expand opportunities for Career and Technical Education training, and make the University of Oregon affordable for everyone again.
Marty will safeguard Oregon’s environment and expand clean energy production in our state. Marty knows Oregon can do more to lead the fight against climate change. Marty supports innovative solutions to cap pollution, invest in wildfire prevention, and encourage the creation of more clean energy jobs across our state.
Marty will champion paid family leave and more affordable childcare. Childcare costs in Oregon are the highest in the country. Marty will work to help ease this financial burden on families and lead the fight to pass a paid family leave bill.
Marty is 100% pro-choice and will continue to defend women’s access to reproductive health care and birth control. This is work he began as a lawyer in the military and about which he has published in professional journals.
Marty will continue his work to reduce bias in policing through data-driven approaches that provide feedback and training to address implicit bias. In his role on citizen advisory boards, he developed skill in addressing this issue.
We must aggressively pursue cases of explicit bias in all government operations. Marty knows seniors in our community need better access to in-home care options and quality long-term care choices. As an Ombudsman, he has worked with seniors and gained insights into what they want and need. Marty will be an advocate for Project Independence, Oregon’s innovative home healthcare program, to keep people in their homes and active in their communities.
